The idea
Sortaring is a ring-sorting puzzle: move rings between stumps until each stump holds a single colour. One rule, many decisions.
It’s made for players of every age, children included, so it’s calm by design. Classic has no timer, and Zen drops the colour rule, the move counter and the stars for anyone who just wants to sort.
Designing 300 levels
Every board was checked by a solver that searches every position reachable under the game’s real rules. Par is the exact shortest solution, never an estimate.
Difficulty comes from decisions, not length. A board must offer opening moves that can lose, and a minimum number of risky decisions (moves with no route left to a win) that rises from 4 at level 150 to 10 by level 300. Levels 150–300 were rebuilt this way first, then levels 1–149.
Stars are earned against par: three for finishing within 15 % of it, two within 60 %. Two twists keep the later worlds fresh: hidden rings arrive at level 21, chained rings at level 60.
Making it feel good
Vibration has four strengths, one for each moment: picking up a ring, an invalid move, a completed stack, and a finished puzzle. It has its own switch, separate from sound.
Classic and Zen each have their own music, and music and sound effects have separate volume controls, so a player can keep one and silence the other.
Built for everyone
It plays in 7 languages: English, German, French, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, and Swedish.
Progress and settings are saved on the device. The game has no accounts and no analytics, ads or network packages.
Beyond Classic, Zen unlocks at level 30 and Challenge at level 50. The Daily Challenge gives every player the same puzzle each day, with the hardest on Sunday.
The website
sortaring.fiveorbits.com has a playable demo in the browser that follows the game’s own rules, timings and sounds.
It’s built to WCAG 2.2 AA and tested at 200 % text size, sets no cookies, and gives every page a strict content security policy. It’s a static export on Cloudflare Pages.
